$50 robot problem (Fried Chip?)
« on: November 07, 2009, 10:34:35 PM »
I bread boarded the circuit for the $50 dollar robot - minus the sensors - but it doesn't work.  I've checked and rechecked the thing, but yes, it works.  I was using the 6-pin deal.  Is there any good way of seeing if that chip is fried?  I was using the AVRISP mkII at my dad's recommendation (as had to order a bunch of stuff from digi-key anyway.)  When I use AVR studio, it always says "connection failed."

Oh, and thanks.

Try this code:

And attach an LED to any output port. If the LED flashes you are good! (Assuming you are using mega168)

Just a note, check the orientation of your programmer. I personally have attached it backwards many times.

Would this circuit http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CAcQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tuxgraphics.org%2Fcommon%2Fimages2%2Farticle09043%2Ftest-circuit-led.pdf&rct=j&q=Atmega8+test+circuit&ei=Xk4TS4moD9L-nQeFw4nDAw&usg=AFQjCNGvR-z_mqERrzuatTI9Ay7jxb_eFg do it?

I use the Atmega8.  Is that hex file compatible?  If nothing else, I can periodically oscillate the output pins myself....

oh and Thanks a lot!

Previous Solution: Upgrade AVR studio.  Yea free tech support.
