IP camera for surveillance robot
« on: May 27, 2011, 11:47:57 AM »
I am building a robot that will be controlled remotely at first and primarily used for surveillance. I am looking for a descent camera that has a zoom feature (optical), is networkable (either native or through a video server), and has 2 way audio. It is not important (to a point) how big the camera is as the robot is fairly large and I will size the pan/tilt system to the camera. I have found several that would be great but they are through the roof expensive. Does anyone know of a camera or camera and video server combo that will fit these criteria in the $350 or under category.

The ones on this site do not quite fit the bill. The camera needs to have a optical zoom feature. I may be asking too much for the price range. I found one on superdroids website that would probably work with a video server, http://www.superdroidrobots.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1015 but i cannot find any info on this camera. I will keep looking

Best PTZ IP camera for <$250.

Built in web server, microphone, 100MB Ethernet and 802.11 Wifi in one small tight little kit. Video quality is top notch too, capable of streaming 640x480 at a solid 30fps.
The difference between the student and the master, is that the master knows what he does not know.

That one definatly looks good and I will probably be buying a couple of those for the house but after alot looking around I think I am going to go with the standard ccd camera that I posted the link to in my last post and a webserver that has the built in audio. I will still have to come up with a pan tilt system but I have a couple of ideas there. Now lets just hope the rest of the bot works as planned!
