I have a good site idea. It will be so if someone asks a question and it gets answered, the maker of that post clicks "Topic Solved" so than everyone knows that is already solved and no posts are needed anymore in it.

I think this is a good idea ;)

I, however, don't unless if a person has clicked "Topic Solved", then other people can still post to ask questions or go more in depth about something. Is this the case?
-
I agree w/ frodo, I hope it is just to let people know.
-
It just tells people that it is solved, so if I am looking to help people, I don't need to go back to that topic just to see them say "Thanks" I can move on and so forth. But if someone else had a questions about it, they could go in it, ask the question and someone could answer it. I could modify it so the creator can make it solved, but other memebers can make it unsolved if they want to continue it.
-
cant you just change thread name to add solved?
-
I dont think its a very good idea really. I think it would just cause confusion and all that crap with people setting it solved and unsolved and such. Plus theres always that jackass that will run around setting everything to unsolved(countered of course by requiring a certain rank or number of posts before being able to "unsolve" things... which is lame).
Summary:
I just think it would cause confusion and frustration
-
True, it would work on other sites, but on this site when stuff always gets re-opened there is no point.

if you want something unsolved why not just post what you want to post?

Turns out that I've had to post on the Ubuntu forum 2 days ago. Last time I posted there they had a helpful button under the names of those who replied and in the thread tools there was the ability to mark your thread as solved.
They were both removed some time ago to solve instability issues with the forum (according to one reply I got)

I just looked into the mod, its no longer compatible with the current forum version. Appears the developer stopped working on it two years ago.
That being said, I usually just scroll down to the bottom of threads to see if it has been solved before reading it.
Even then, I sometimes have a different solution to suggest or comments on why the solution worked.
I've thought about adding a 'Topic Solved' feature before, but I'm still undecided if its a good idea.
