Title: fabricate Robotic arm with options to change the gripper type
Post by: a7made on October 31, 2010, 07:47:35 AM
is it possible to fabricate 5DOF robotic arm with option to change the gripper type automatic using Servo motors??

Examples:
•   Gripper for holding hot objects (hot machined parts).
•   Gripper for holding fragile object (glass, brittle).
•   Gripper with sharp Edges to cut the materials

1 DOF base
1 DOF Shoulder
1 DOF Elbow
2 DOF Gripper

Very possible and also very complicated

can i use 8051 Microcontroller in this project? if no, what type of Microcontroller i must choose?

It depends on your design parameters. It may be done with an 8051 as you only have 5 motors to control depending on how they are to be controlled and on the method and precision of any required feed-back. If your requirements are tight then you may need an 8051 for each joint but all this is just guesses since I don't know what you really need.

What kind of material i should use for the gripper that hold hot objects?

Well.... Hot is a relative term. How hot are you talking? Cooking hot or melting metal hot?

... And ...
What is the maximum duration to hold these hot objects and what is the cool down time (the time from releasing one object to picking up the next).

How long can they be from the fixture point.

Materials like cast iron and stainless steel transfers heat relatively slow, but keep the heat for quite a while. Aluminum OTOH picks up the heat very fast, but dissipates it fast as well - with careful selection of materials and design/construction, it could hold metal glowing cherry red (for a certain amount of time).
