I'm announcing SoR's 6th Robot Tutorial Contest. This year it'll be different, instead of written tutorials, this time its for video tutorials for the Axon. As before, winners can choose between $100, a new free Axon, or a reimbursement for one they already purchased.

For more information, see http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon_video_contest.shtml (http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon_video_contest.shtml)

See this page for examples of what the video should be like:
http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon2/axon2_videos.shtml (http://www.societyofrobots.com/axon2/axon2_videos.shtml)

Post your entry here before August 31st to qualify.

Depending on how Admin answers my question on if separate videos on the same robot count as one entry or not, here's my first entry consisting of two Youtube videos. A second entry with proper tutorial is forthcoming.

SAGAR Autonomous Robot Runs First Mission under Labview Control (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHI_m-GH_Qc#ws)
SAGAR Autonomous Rover Waypoint Mission Interface and Vehicle Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNZccRC8Zek#ws)

One video is just the operator interface during a mission, one video has another mission with an inset of a video of the robot while it runs it's missions.

More about it, including pictures showing Axon as the main computer can be found at http://www.billporter.info/?cat=11 (http://www.billporter.info/?cat=11)

Alright, here's my second entry. Hopefully it gives the Axon enough face-time. Also Youtube has been slow to provide the HD version, i uploaded it as 720P hopefully that will be an option soon. EDIT: now it's there. It's much better if you watch it in 720P.

Also, first video tutorial ever, so be easy one me. It took me many hours of takes to get it right, and I still hate the sound of my own voice.

Axon 2, Webbotlib and Project Designer Tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPhMES0PFEw#ws)

And here's it running around.

Contest ends in two weeks.

No one else wants a free Axon? ::)

Otherwise madsci1016 wins by default . . .

Getting your post count up are you, Razor Concepts?
It was the maximum size Movie Maker allowed 230x320px or something.
And I uploaded the wrong one  >:(

Heres the new one:

I think it's fair to say Madsci has won 1st place...

Odds:
99.99% that Madsci will win 1st place
00.01% that I win 1st place

LOL that seems about right...

Here's my entry on building your first robot with the Axon II... I actually just finished so the last second thing wasn't just for suspense  ;D

Good luck all!
I hope Admin is  feeling generous on judgment day

Since Admin said the biggest decision factor was Youtube views / score, I held off spreading my video till the contest was over.

Since it is, I went ahead and posted up the video on LMR, with the hope of bringing some of their members towards the dark side, better side of a more powerful library.

:D - but hey "Chin up" - let me know when you plan to release a range of marzipan servos. Perhaps a tutorial on how to convert icing sugar for continuous rotation would be a good follow up. Incidentally - pipe cleaners make good servo cables.

Pipe cleaners are good wires! Its true!
At school we were given the challenge of making a heater type thing.
I took a pipe cleaner, striped it of hair and used it as a heating element!
Ok the teacher wasn't impressed when I nearly burnt my hand, but it worked.
I found elastic band friction heaters work well too.

Marzipan servos...
Model servos out of Marzipan...

Sugar battery's maybe...

Make a cake out of capacitors...

Lemon powered robots...

The possibility's are endless...

I guess I've kept the suspense up for too long now . . .

To be honest, I really like Madsci's and Hawaii00000's videos very much. Both are exactly what I was looking for. Good job on the video editing, the scripts, the animations, etc. I think I'll imitate both of you for my future videos :P

I will say though that Madsci's Webbotlib and Project Designer Tutorial video wins 1st, on account that his project had been completed both hardware and software wise. Hawaii00000 earned 2nd and voyager2 gets honorable mention.

Oh, and I will be having another video contest :D

Will it be axon related?

I will give it to Hawaii that his is a better 'commercial' for the Axon, and he must have spent as much time on his as I did mine.

But I will defend my video as more informative on a topic that isn't covered by anyone else.

With the OK of Admin and Hawii00000, I'd like to split the prize with Hawaii00000, since we both made great videos. And I mean the cash, somehow I don't think 1/2 an Axon 2 would work properly.

Basically a repeat of this same contest, but I'll clear up the rules a bit better.

Even better. I wanted to actually just declare both of you 1st, and give out a full prize to you both . . . but my wallet would have been really sad . . .

I appreciate it madsci, but you won fair and square. I'd rather not feel like I owe you one.

It's up to you. I'm in no way trying to get you to 'owe' me anything, but you clearly put a lot of effort into your video; and I feel you deserve it as much as I do.
