Title: universal drive unit

Hey guys, I'm new in robotics and try to build something; could somebody explain to me , what a "universal drive unit" is.And what do we need it on a robot for ?

Sounds like a marketing thing to me.  Where did you hear that?

no no,none to do with marketing  :D or whatever goes in that direction.I'm a Mechanical Engineering student in Germany and I'm working on a project.To win in time,I decided to buy a robot kit from this page http://www.volksbot.de/xt-de.php and the thing is supposed to have 20 Universal Driver Units (UDUs).Does anybody know what it means  ??? ????
