I was bored and i had a big cap laying around so I took it apart.
the brown paper type stuff smells really weird. i got a headache now
the silver stuff looks like tin foil, but feels a bit thicker

Perhaps they used Germanium in that cap?

actually, you can split those IC's in half along the seem where the pins stick out. they look pretty neat like that. it amazes me how these chips are like 90% plastic.

and that the chip is only a very small piece in the centre with the rest being just wires to the legs.
In the old days, the center used to be open anyway to allow erasing through uv light when electrically erasable roms werent available. Maybe its not a good idea to use a chip that you open up incase it gets accidentally erased by sunlight
