Title: NEW IDEA : A Formula which Robots Can Guess Number Of People In Specific Places
Post by: mf2fx on November 25, 2011, 08:12:38 AM
Hi Dear Friends.
I'm New In Robots World. My Field in Computer Software Engineering.
For one of my courses , "Statics and Probability" , I have to find a FORMULA - Maybe Make - for robots. which they can
Guess How many People are in the Specific places.
For example If an Earthquake or fire occurs , The Rescue Robots or Firefighter Robots With a GIS Map in they're softwares
can Guess (JUST GUESS FOR FIRST STEP) how many people are there in the specific room or etc.
But Please Tell your Opinions and Formula (it is better to say in Statics and Probability).
I really want to Work on this Project.
Please help me friends.

Kind REGARDS ...
Tnx  ;)

I think Your asking wrong questions?

Guessing software of hardware does not exist, as computers do not do mistakes, they are precise and work with data, You have to feed data to get data. The closest thing to guessing number of people in certain area is to have piece of software generating random (pseudo-random to be precise) numbers, so it can be anything from 0 to whatever is the largest number in computing. But that is not really useful, don't You think so?

Something more usefull would be to have database containing information about population in areas of interest. Then, if something happens computer can reffer to that data and make required calculations.

Hi Dear Friend
And Thanks For Ur Attention...
The Data for processing this idea can be made by the Carbon-dioxide , Temperature , Camera Sensors and Process them with image processing ...

What do you prefer ? could use with GIS MAPs  and using Geometric Computing ?

tnx again man

Oh, I think I know what you mean, mf2fx.

Something like, the robot enters the room, and "looks around" for what could possibly be people.

The information is then taken from each reading (CO2, Temperature, and/or faces found via face recognition software), and the robot then calculates how many "hits" (possible people) it has detected.

The robot then informs someone of the number of possible people in the room, and what parts of the room each possible person is located on the map/floor layouts.

Hi dear friend "Redcap"
Almost true , EXACT ...
but in addition i have to say , your comment + the ROBOT can guess (JUST GUESS) how many people may be in the Living-Room or maybe they are in the BedRooms (This is valuable) For example if the Time be at 10PM >> This is Possible that the childs & and people in the Bedrooms AND so on ...

how about measuring approximate crowd density based on faces then measuring the area of the room using sensors and then density*Area.

also the robot could use the map with labels of the rooms with approximate densitys, such as when going on a rescue a more people dense room such as a classroom would be taken a higher priority when planning routes than lets say a janitors closet.

I think I know what you mean, this would be very simple, but would take a very complex map with a lot of details. So this is definitely possible. Also instead of guessing amount of people, setting priority's based on more people dense areas.

Hi Dear Tyler555
Thanks again for your attention...
First of All I have to Get a Probability Formula (even simple) For this problem, Which can tell (guess) how many people are there
with the detailed maps (as u say).
If U can send your Email to me , to send u some PDF about probability...
tnx

mf2fx,
(Calculate would be a much better word to use than guess ;) )

To extend on my last comment, the user/robot knows how many people should be in the building overall, and based on time of day and other factors, calculates the probability of where the people should be located.

Depending on how simple you want the formula, you'd want to AT LEAST include the time of day and what day of the week it is, the minimum amount of adults & children that are expected to be in the building at any one given time :)

Hi Again Dear Redcap and tnx for attention and tnx for "calculate" word. (using better word)
and as you know What is the other factors to get the formula except the time & amount of adults and childrens ?
How We can divide the MAP to use for ROBOT ?

i see your idea.
it could be acheivd by a stationary camera robot that estimates (educated guess, time of day, weather)  how many people should be in the room.
the it coupels that data with any readings it gets (co2, vision, other things)
and comes up with an estemate reading.
then it should know about how many people are in the room (with other data) and send this data to the authorities.
also
stop calling people dear. nobody else did. its not snail mail.
thx.
