please some one help me. iam a starter.
« on: October 01, 2008, 10:37:00 AM »
hello fnds,i am buliding a line maze solver. for tat iam trying to first implement  CIRCUIT OF LINE FOLLOWER. I found a sample circuit from  a site which i have attached.

1. In these circuits he has used photo transistor. But in my locality i could find only THREE LEADS photo transistor where as in the circuit he has used two lead transistor. can i use the three lead phototransistor ? if yes ,how ?

2. Will the circuit work with a normal photodiode(reciever) in place of the phototransistor ?

3. can i have a better way of designing my line sensor ? it needs to be efficient with better output (3.5 v to 5v).... can anyone suggest some good techniques ?

the circuit i have attached are taken from http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/958

Should be fine, even with 2 lead photo resistors, we tend to add a voltage dividing circuit to it anyway to give it three leads.

I'd prefer the first one with the resistor...
Does your MCU has embedded ADC...
If yes, the first config is a sure shot... But see the specs of your
phototransistor to see if any changes to the value of the resistor are fit!!!

yes i am using pic 18f4550 which has inbuilt adc. but iam not able to find the photo transistor in the market. can u specify any specific part number of the phototransistor ? can i use photodiode instead of photo transistor ???

can i use photodiode instead of photo transistor
things to look up: photoresistor, phototransistor, photodiode, CdS, photosensor, photoconductive, photocell

For all intents and purposes, they are all the same.
