flip flop question (not really robot related yet:)
« on: December 14, 2007, 07:51:19 AM »
what would be a couple of good flip flops to use with a  555 to make three leds flash in a sequencal order? while having a little lag time between each flask so that the lights will transition between each other. x-mas gift i'm making.  thanks for in the insite.

How about a counter IC?

For example, an 8 bit counter IC has 1 input (such as a 555 ouput), and there are 8 output pins that could each be hooked up to a resistor and LED. There are many types of counter IC's with different output types.

To get the time delay, you could put a capacitor in line with the output (after the resistor) and ground, where the capacitor value determines the delay.

that's pretty much what I had in mind.  my idea is to have one (a) light up, then the second (b), then soon after have a turn off and the cycle repeats to the third (c) and then back to a.  kinda fading back and forth.  however it looks like a long "blink" per led will be the best way.  anyone know of a good timer IC?  preferably something i can pick up at frys.  thanks for the ya'll.
