Title: I love this site!
Post by: garriwilson on October 17, 2007, 06:43:01 PM
Hey everybody,

I just wanted to say that this is an awesome website. I have learned so much from everybody and mostly thanks to John I know so much about robots and rc stuff. This is like a dream come true.

I was desperate to do an electronics project but I had NO idea whatsoever where to begin, how to make stuff, and be creative. Building the $50 photovore was very helpful for me to understand circuitry and mechanical construction. Right now I could probably make a simple circuit board with a microcontroller. However the only thing I haven't learned is programming. A tutorial on that would be helpful but I think it's just too much to put on a couple of pages.

Special thanks to John for making this website. I am confident that it will grow into a massive, crowded robotics place known throughout the world. This could even spark new breakthroughs in artificial intelligence.

Everybody thank you for teaching me so many things and I hope one day I will be an expert like you guys and be able to help other people with their problems.

Does anyone else have anything to say?

I am also very new to this but I've learned so much just by reading through the forums.  It's incredible.  Very well done!

yep yep.
It is rare to find elite that are willing to brainstorm and share with the noobs (me). I really like the fact that everyone likes to nudge you in the right direction rather than spell out the answer---makes me get off my lazy butt.

I've been in your shoes... so I know...
But still I'm only a beginner...

"I had been wanting to build robots for years, since 3rd grade actually. I was completely fascinated by them. But unfortunately I never had any outside influence to do this - none. Not a single person I knew understood what even a resistor was good for, even through highschool! No one to help me, no one to explain anything, no guidance from teachers, no SoR either! I bought robot like toys, dabbled with electronics, but didn't have a clue on where to start. Nature, failed by nurture . . ." - from the $50 robot tutorial part 1, Motivation.

Oh, this was SOOO true for me!  I used to take apart drills for the motors and try to build wooden boxes to hold them and try to graft legs or wheels onto them...I've bought MindStorms and done a few of the projects.  But now I feel totally ready to take on a real robotics project just like I've dreamed about doing at home.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SITE!
(I'm also recently discovered my local Robotics Society chapter, but it's the off season and we've had no meetings, so this website has put the wind back into my sails. :D )

Thank you!!!
