Pololu Carrier with Sharp GP2Y0D810Z0F
« on: March 15, 2010, 05:09:05 AM »
Anyone bought this product?
http://www.active-robots.com/products/sensors/pololu-carrier-10cm.shtml

They're about £5 each. I bought 2 a couple weeks ago, then one just stopped working so I bought another, then the second one I'd bought stopped working! I didn't think I'd been rough or fried them but I guessed it was probably my fault somehow.
In any case I wanted 4 for a new robot so bought 4 more. Then the other night the 3rd one I bought just stopped working too.
Haven't really used the 4 new ones yet but as the first 3 have just died I thought I'd ask has anyone else had any difficulties with these before I get onto the supplier.

Thanks, Richard.

I am using two of the 5cm versions. So far they have been working.
I did find that they do draw lots of current when switching so put a 47uF cap right on the power pins.

Are you powering them from a regulated supply? Or are there motors connected to the same power as the Sharpe uses? I could see that spikes, from motors, could kill these.

Hi there, yes they're on a regulated 5V supply with no motors, plus they've got 22uf ceramic caps across power and ground right on the carrier boards.

Hi richie

I'm in the UK as well and buy stuff from active robots.

I suggest you also post questions to their support department and see what they say.
Since its a kinda blog then you may get responses from others as well.
