Post by: Sitherus on October 29, 2013, 11:32:16 PM
i need cheap (under 100 dollar+shipping) motors tha can support at least 150lbs and have at least 100 or more rpm for my self balancing robot but i have no idea where to begin. people keep recomending power chair motors but i cant find any that are on the cheaper side of things i looked all oiver ebay amazon and craigs list i live in roanoke ve where no one care any thing about robot parts or keeps anything that can be used in one. i was looking at these http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261259654914?lpid=82 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261259654914?lpid=82) but i am unsure as to their weight capacity and just because they look like power chair motors doesnt mean they can provide any of the torque to do what they can as i know worm gear motors are all different then if i get these i wouldnt have a glue as to attaching the wheel which i was told to get a bracket to hold the motor in place and screw the wheel on the flat [part of the motor. can some one help i guess what im asking is does the motor im looking at provide what i need im mounting alot of weight above it on a steel frame and 2 is there something better out there that i can use or have a place to but cheap power chair motors at thanks

Look for a local Wheel chair sales and repair place.
They probably will have old wheels chairs that you can buy from them cheap.
Or keep an eye on the local classified ads for used wheels chairs. This includes Craigs list, free cycle and some other online personal market places.

You only chance to do this cheaply is to obtain used and scavenge parts.

You can also look into car starter motors at auto wreckers or craigslist. Motorcycle starter motors might be a little harder to find cheap. Wiper motors and window motors might also work for you but they are not as powerful as the starter motors. Nice thing about car parts is you will be able to find them well into the future if your robot brakes.
