Powerful Enough Servo?
« on: October 24, 2011, 04:37:21 PM »
Hey guys,

Do you think this servo is powerful enough to move a 1 lb dome camera on a pan/tilt bracket up and down?

If you guys cannot give me a direct answer, what would be the way of figuring this out?

Thanks

If you want the servo to just lift the camera, it can do so at roughly 2.5" distance only, but it's not the way to make a tilt unit.
You make a hinged holder/suspension system for the camera and either hinge it ibalanced or add weight(s) to balance it, so you can move it around with the slightest push - then you can use almost any servo.

Even a 9g servo should do fine as long as the cam is perfectly balanced and the hinges are made for low friction (ball bearings or bronze bushings would be my choice, but even nylon bushings should do).

Søren

A rather fast and fairly heavy robot with quite large wheels needs what? A lot of power?
Please remember...

Ok thank you for the advice.  I am using pan/tilt brackets over at Sparkfun electronics

That should work great then.  Thanks a lot!
