Title: Modifiying servos
Post by: lordcalvert on April 28, 2007, 06:50:10 PM
I am new to robotics and i just recently bought 6 HS 55 servos from a friend and i couldn't figure out how to modify a small servo.  I have already read the modifying tutorial but messed up the servo so now I'm a little timid to do anything.  So just help out please I'm just a beginner.

I took some pics of the gears of servo hope they help.  if not just tell me and ill take some other pictures. i think this might just be the pothead (if thats whats it called) if it is i tried to turn it but the motor wont stop turning advise is wanted and appreciated.

What do you want to modify in it?
If you want the servo motor to turn continually open it up and take out the stopper tab.
A servo motor is just a motor which can signal to a microcontroller its position( 90 degrees, 150, etc.)
Hope this helps,
Eric

lordcalvert, can you upload a pic(s) of the insides of your servo? Ive modified like 30 servos in my day, of many different types, so I can probably help you on this.

actually thats not true. most servos dont send signals to the microcontroller.

I think he meant the curcuitry inside the servo

reading the datasheet it says 'The HS-55 can also be modified for continuous rotation for wheeled robot platforms. Please see the link below for instructions on how to perform this modification.'

following that link, it says 'coming soon' . . . so useless . . .

hmmmm I cant really make out that image you posted . . . could you post a few higher quality pictures at different angles? when following my modify servo tutorial (http://www.societyofrobots.com/actuators_modifyservo.shtml), what parts of the HS-55 did not match the images in my tutorial? What did you do that messed it up?
