America gets cheaper.......well...........pretty much everything
When I look at $50 I put it in my mind as £50 and so something like this sound plausible.
£25 (which is roughly the equivalent) doesn't seem to go very far.

This guy may be able to build a robot like that for $50, but he's obviously an analog wiz, and is being very optimistic with his pricing.
I also don't believe you could build with all the features he's talking about for that price, unless you build most of the components yourself (like for instance, he says you can use either non-geared motors, or build a gearbox yourself).
The difference between that page and what Admin is doing, is that anyone can build what Admin has described, if you have a soldering iron and a few basic tools.

You can actually build a robot for about $35 (determined from my experience in building The $50 Robot), but the level of skill you need to do this was just too high for most people - so I kept the cost higher instead . . . and you also need access to a university electronics lab for the equipment . . . :P

Ive read that and didn't like it. was some time ago, so I don't remember why.

From my experience, actually you can build a robot for \1900(about $19). But it must be completely hardwired and it requires a lot of planning and calculation and patience for searching for sales and discounts.
