Title: Micro 50$ Robot
Post by: Absolute on April 01, 2009, 10:04:20 AM
Is it possible to size down the 50$ robot to a 1inch cube? if so, what parts should be used?

Smaller ones. :-P

Have you looked into using pager motors?

MegaBITTY(which uses an AVR) + RC tank gear train + BITTY bot sensors = cubic inch robots!!!

If this is your first robot I would not recommend you starting off small. The smaller the harder it is to work with.

if you are starting out with robotics i would say learn more about the mcu's and how they work first because then if you do end up making this robot later you will find it a lot easier to troubleshoot a problem.

This is a robot like the $50 robot that is a cubic inch:

that is a concept but looks quite hard to do. however with a smaller avr chip like one of the attiny's this may be easier.

If you want small, you need to make your own PCB and use surface mount components.

You can use the same schematic and part values as on the $50 robot, just smd types.

But if this is your first robot, you should keep it simple and try a regular sized robot first. You'll find a regular sized bot hard in itself!
