How do you map with a Sharp IR Rangefinder?
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:49:48 AM »
Can you please give me a pretty detailed description on how to map with a Sharp IR Rangefinder?
I want to map my room and I can't figure out how to set it up.

PS: You can also e-mail me if you want...
                          Thanks

Hmmm ok, that's like crossing the Atlantic with a canoe. Not impossible, but....

Anyhow, I've seen people using the Xbox Kinect for 3D mapping of rooms, bodies, etc etc etc...

And for what it does, I would say it's rather low cost.
And I also guess that you might be trolling around forums (hope not) so I do provide some kind of answer,
so that others don't only waste time in a forum.
For whom the interrupts toll...

These may give you some ideas:

After you do some more reading, if you have specific questions feel free to ask.

I hope that helps,

I am also building a robot which aims to sweep in a room and come up with a map of the enviroment.

I parse a big square matrix, where each member of the empty matrix represents my robot's size. If robot sees any obstacle this member of the matrix will be a 1 (or any other thing says there is an obstacle) . I've tried to create an algorithm by hand but failed.

I have sure seen this project http://www.societyofrobots.com/programming_wavefront.shtml   but there is no explanation about map creation while sweeping in the enviroment with a Sharp Range Finder.

Seems simple so much but actually i am searching for this simple algorithm, and this is the only forum i am asking it.

Thanks in advance for your help.
