Programmer help 50$ Robot
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:27:29 AM »
can we use the same programmer for ATMega16 and ATMega8?
The datasheet for my programmer says
Pin 1 AVR Mega 16 Pin 6 (MOSI)
Pin 2 AVR Mega 16 Pin 7 (MISO) and so on..
basically it seems like it's not intended for the AVR MEga 8 I'm using

i also tried 'Write All',
The unknown device error...msg appeared - I "ignore" d it
As Pony Prog contd writing (0%..15%..95%) the LED attached to the IC flashed
Finally when it had almost verified Pony Prog ends with "Write Failed"  :'(

**I was wondering what the flashing LED signifies
the programmer is powered up correctly...the serial port is fine...the LED's connected correctly...and...? ***

if you could id definitely  order the avrispmkII programmer and u can save urself a ton of trouble!
if not, try building this and see what happens. Very cheap to make, i managed to build one in about 30 mins. http://www.instructables.com/id/EXIM2VJJ51EUKIKWDF/

Finally found the solution...I didn't write the required Security and Configuration bits to the IC...
