Sonar senser system

Hello.

I am an undergraduate student. doing my FYP in AUV sonar system to detect  a dead body.and i have many confusion.

firstly, what kind of sonar sensor should i use ??
what kind of software is suitable ( matlab, LabView )??
 i need a brief description how to start ,, and what are the material selection i need them ??
