quadrotors are soooo old-school . . .
MikroKopter - HexaKopter (http://vimeo.com/6194911)

That is seriously incredible machine they've got there!!
You could VERY easily modify that to become a perv-cam in the sky ;D
A 3G data modem and contract SIM would mean that you could send it coordinates over the internet, and the camera could record a whole lot of footage, in very good quality as we see in the video.
I still can't get over how stable it is!

I am actually in the process of building a modified version of this. The idea of using the EVDO modem is just what I had in mind to stream FPV video from a 520L CCD camera and then film HD video from a separate camera.
I could really use some help on figuring how to do this.
I was thinking of stripping down an external enclosure but even if it works Im still at a loss to figure out how to power it and get a signal sent without a computer.

Wow thats very impressive. Were all those red boards gps? It seemed to be really accurate in its positioning.

Those were custom electronic speed controllers

Why does he use all those boards? Couldn't he just use a micro to pwm?
-
Wow! That's the fasted 'copter I've ever seen! (Mind you, it DOES have 6 rotors.)
Very smooth control too. All the motors sound like buzzing bees...
It gets +2 from me!

Running brushless motors is a huge task in itself, a simple pwm thing won't suffice. These arent your normal DC brushed motors, but high quality 3-phase BLDC motors

Amazing how fast this thing is. How angry do you think the army would be if you flew this in one of their bases and had a look around? ;)

Pretty sure that's called spying and you could be put on trial for treason. Just saying.

40 euro each :o
$2000 USD for a complete hexakopter :o

thats sweet, theres a guy I worked with at the Army Research Lab who was trying to make this work, this looks like 100X more stable though

I see your hexacopter and raise you a octocopter!

Not quite, as the air flow from each blade mixes. In this configuration, two props aren't guaranteed to produce the same thrust that two props would if they were far apart. :P
-
Maybe, but it's still an Octo, and is called such. :P

I know a bit off topic, but isn't really "weird" let's say, that there is both knowledge and material for
a civilian to actually build military sized UAVs...
That's good... for us... but maybe bad for others... and safety is a minimum concern here... ::)
