got a video of an 'old-school' UUV I can use?
« on: October 25, 2010, 09:57:38 AM »
I'm producing a video, where part of it requires an example of a slow clunky 'old school' UUV moving around in water.

By old-school, I mean nothing recent . . . does anyone have one I can use? (full credit given, of course)

Quality downloads please, no youtube :P

This is a tall order without more info.

For starters, there's Old ABE that is pretty old.

UUVs haven't changed much since the early ABE era, after glass sphere's came the torpedo like design that has been used for 2 decades if not more. So a 'old-school' will swim the same as a modern, and look the same.

Are you looking for long trip mission oriented UUVs like mine hunters, or more small search pattern ROV type UUVs?

Your best bet is to dig around for anything from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, as they are arguably the birthplace of early UUVs (like ABE).

Otherwise I can ask around the office. Are you in the Navy's GAL? if not can you PM me your work email?

I'm looking for something closer to a ROV I think, or anything that appears not very maneuverable and/or fast.

By 'old-school', I mean nothing like the fancy bio-mimetic or oddly-shaped UUVs that have been coming out in the last ~10 years.

Oh and I try to avoid all use of my work email - they wipe my entire account every time I take a vacation to Thailand. I've lost everything both times :-X
Plus, I'm forced to use Microsuck Outlook which is really quite painful for me . . .
