He doesn't actually say much of anything in his talk, it's more of a 'we are awesome, vote for me again' speech. The initiative is $70 million - enough for about 100 mid-size research projects. It puts robotics on the minds of politicians which is (in theory) a good thing.

If only Australian's stupid politicians would stop yelling at each other long enough to actually do something!!!!

I can't wait until politicians start banning certain types of robotics research. :-X
(not very different from stem cell bans, for example)
