One of the guys in the Ottawa Robotics Club has a new base he's been working on...

Yea it's pretty good. I think some industrial robots have done that and I think Admin has also made a robot like that.
My thoughts on this. It's good research for mobility but not very practical in the real world.
I'm all about practical mobility so I stick to diferential or ackerman.
But kudos to those who dare......I'm just affraid to work on mechanical stuff.....

But wouldnt parallel parking be easier with this method? :P They used this mobility type on the two Mars Rovers currently wandering around, and I think they will keep using it on future rovers.

hey, if I can program, you can do mechanical stuff! :P
just dont let your fear keep you from being a better robotics engineer. i can remember a half dozen times where i was afraid of learning something new (and avoided it), and after learning, i wished i learned it sooner (CNC, microcontrollers, CAD, etc.).

This is an absolutely wicked robot. I wanna build one!

The question is how much tme do I want to spend on mechanical stuff......

Yeah, I couldn't even start to imagine where I could gain access to anything to cut metal into shapes.

Yea not having the tools is what's limiting me for alot of it. Guess once I start my new job that won't be a problem :P
