Another first robot
« on: June 22, 2011, 07:00:51 PM »
Hello everybody. Introducing my first robot :P

Since I just made my robot not crash into walls, I figured I'd make an appearance on this site, since I'd been using it for a long time anyways.

It's sort-of based on the beginner robot here, and a little bit on the letsmakerobots.com beginner robot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZXxnXWlBQI#ws

It's got a chassis made out of part polymorph granules, part rubber band and part "borrowed" chopsticks.

It's got a 9v battery to run the uC and 5 1.2v batteries to run the motors.

It's based on an Atmega168. An old schematic (not including the servo and IR sensor) can be found here.

I guess I will do some more improvements on this before moving on to something else - for example, the QRT-1A IR sensor I'm using doesn't seem to have quite the range I'm looking for.

Any comments on the design are welcomed :)

Nice use of shapelock there! I have the same motors that you do but I have been puzzling about how to mount them to things. You solved my problem, im gonna break open my old bag of polymorph again  ;D

Hah, I didn't expect anyone to actually take inspiration from my little 'bot... Awesome! ;D

I just heated the polymorph and sort of pressed it against the motors 'till they got the right shape, then I attached them to the main body by using a lighter. You can see the burn marks :P
