i m not getting hitec hs-311 servo

can i use simple motor in place of servo

Yes, for $50 robot, if you not using servo, can use simple motor in place of servo but you need to have h-bridge motor driver like L293 to drive the motor and you need to change the software.
Bottom line is the construction will not going any lower cost.

... And the motor needs to either be a gear head motor, or have an external gear box.
