Adding Bluetooth
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:14:05 PM »
So I completed my $50 robot and was thinking about adding wireless capabilities to it, more specifically bluetooth.

I found this cheap board on ebay and was wondering if it would work with the ATMega16.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-Wireless-Bluetooth-TTL-Transceiver-Module-9600_W0QQitemZ380117429560QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090415?IMSfp=TL090415157002r8641

I've been reading several post regarding bluetooth and ended a bit confused with the mcu needing host capabilities. But that was regarding using Bluetooth => USB => UART system. I only want to send and transmit simple commands from the controller and possibly between other robots. Others have mentioned the BlueSMiRF but i find it a bit out of the budget. Basically what features am  I looking for when searching for these types of devices that I want to attach to my board. What do you guys think?

Thanks.

This bluetooth module seems to offer what you want.

It has USB but you can use RS232 instead (it has both) so you don't have to worry about host capabilities, you can actually connect this one straight to the MCU (since the RS232 voltage levels are already TTL).

The problem i can see is that this chip doesn't have much documentation. Here's what little information i found about the module -

At that price it seems there is no reason to try it out :P
