Title: Continous Motion HS-311 Servos...
Post by: Nate_the_Great on April 26, 2007, 09:33:16 PM
Ok I'm trying to build the 50$ robot. When I came to the website recommended (Servocity) I saw they had a version of the servo that is continuous in motion as opposed to the 90 and 180 degree versions. Could I skip the servo-mod and just use these continuous motion servos instead, and if so would that affect any of the connections?

Thanks

Yeah if you buy the continuous servos, you can skip the modification step. Basically servocity does that part for you :)

yeah but isnt that like 20 extra bucks to spend on something you could do for free

Well, for the HS-311 servos I agree, it's probably not worth the $20 to get them to modify it. But when I ordered some other servos, I was willing to pay $20 extra for the modification, mainly because the servos used metal gears, and cutting metal gears didn't appeal to me.. I had enough trouble snipping off the plastic ones :)

actually you dont need to cut anything with the metal gears. with the plastic gears you cut off the stop, but with metal gears you just pull out a pin. with the right tools it took me like 3 seconds to do :P

You can get continuous rotation servos here http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx?productID=429&CategoryID=38 (http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.aspx?productID=429&CategoryID=38) for $12.99... but they're out of stock at the moment. They will get more soon though. I've used them and they work great. I think they are even 311 servos or equivalent.

Ok, I missed this step.  Where do I make the mod on the servo?  Our robots need to move further than 90 degree rotations.

We just came on this today.  We have been thinking we had a software adjustment but, wrong......

Please let me know what I need to change in the servo.  Thanks in advance........
