Best Starting Electronics Book - Make: Electronics
« on: December 14, 2009, 02:28:49 PM »
Edit 2009/12/15 - I'm NOT the author. I just think this book would be great for the people here in SoR that want to learn electronics. I don't get anything (certainly no money) for posting this.

I've received a lot of emails from people looking for a basic guide for electronics. This is it. Make: Electronics is clean, clear, and very informative. It covers the stuff I was itching to learn as a youngster long before formal engineering education.

The contents of the book are the type of things that I'm asked to explain in detail. With the book you get great photos, clear explanations, and projects to complete.

This is now the first book that I'll recommend to anyone asking questions about electronics.

I think it will do a lot of good to help the people that come here to the electronics thread to learn their first steps in electronics.

I recommend it ahead of the Forrest Mims books and the Electronics for Dummies books. It is modern, clean, clear. Just what newcomers to electronics that come here to SoR need.

Perhaps Admin will make this thread sticky and lock it to the top?

The book isn't even out until Friday. How would you know that it's good?

I have a copy right here in my hand. Ordered direct, so I got it ahead of release.

Oh. I thought you might be the author, or have some other relationship to the book.

 :(

Despite the stunning thumb resemblance, I'm not the author. This isn't even one of the books that I've reviewed. I bought it on a whim, with the intent of pointing to it as a good resource, if it proved to be a good book.

I would certainly say it is a great book. It is a dive-in-and-do-it type of book. I think it is perfectly suited for helping the people that post here. I strongly recommend it.

I'm not posting any type of link that gets me referral money for "selling" the book. Here it is at Amazon:

Thanks for the recommendation. I've been looking for a good book like that for my son. He's more interested in computers, but has shown an interest in electronics lately. Better to get him a good book and let him discover the basics himself than for me to teach him. If I do it, it's force feeding. With a book, he can taste what he wants to.

This book is NOW available for order from Amazon.

If you are looking for a great electronics book to start learning about electronics, this book is VERY hands-on.

Daanii - If your son likes Manga, there is this electronics book, too: http://www.amazon.com/Manga-Guide-Electricity-Kazuhiro-Fujitaki/dp/1593271972/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1261081624&sr=8-1 It also might spark (ha!) his interest.
