CEREBOT Controller Board
« on: January 01, 2008, 07:55:19 PM »
I stumbled upon this controller board a bit ago and was wondering if any of you have any experience or opinions on it. It states that it will directly control 8 servo motors and 3 H-bridge modules. Seems interesting and is somewhat on the cheap side. Thanks for any input, and happy building :)

Sorry this isn't much of an answer, but the board looks interesting and if you do get it please let me know how it is and how easy it is to work with.

During a brief google search I did come across this wiki:

It seems that they believe the board to be friendly. I suggest giving it a read through to determine if it is your cup of tea.

I'm actually thinking of getting a board like that

Check out the Roboduino, Arduino-compatible board!

Ya, i'm really thinking of picking one up. I used digilent's boards when i was in college and was lucky enough to have the founders of the company as profs for a few of my classes. I'll have to see if i can find their board in my old stuff. As for their use, I remember them being a good platform to work on, although the software for the xilinx chip was somewhat finiky at times. Although that very well may have been user error :D. I've only used their logic boards, but I was really excited to see the AVR based controller board.

After posting this i noticed they had what seemed like a nice intro robot kit. Just the foundation and such. Although the $79 they want for it seems kinda on the steep side. http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Catalog.cfm?Nav1=Products&Nav2=Mechatronics&Cat=Robotics . They also have a second edition of the CEREBOT board which supports the ATMega64L instead of the ATMega64. http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Detail.cfm?Prod=CEREBOT-II&Nav1=Products&Nav2=Embedded. As always, Happy Building :)
