Any advice on remote controlling a full size car? I am actually clueless on the mechanical actuators to control the brake, gas, etc. I'm more of an electronics/software guy.
I'd also like to upload data to a server real time, so I'm going to need a uP with a full IP stack. Basic XML posts. I was going to use a Xilinx Virtex 4, but it's probably overkill. If anyone has suggestions for a uP with an IP stack, it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance to all you wonderful techies that make the world better.

The second paragraph lost me...
As for the actuators, you probably want some kind of linear actuator like a solenoid for the brakes/gas and for the
steering, some sort of servo should do it... There are a few people who have done this before, google around and check
out how they rigged it up.

The angry driving episode of prototype this goes into detail on what to use to do what. Some mythbusters episodes have this in it and if you want i can go through them to find them for you.
You are able to control the speed with a servo but you will have to modify the cable. it would be easier than the solenoide method.

You may want to check that out. The car is controlled completely by the iphone, but you're probably more interesting in the actual car interfacing.

top gear did this, i also saw it on scrapheap challenge (goes more into detail)

those sorts of TV shows are a good recourse as they get people hooked when they go into detail.(make them look sophisticated)
