Title: My new website
Post by: amando96 on May 26, 2010, 04:05:07 PM
First off, I'm not sure if it's legal to Post my website here  ???
If it is, then please, delete it, but please warn me when/if you do.

I just made it today using webs.com
http://amando-abreu.webs.com/ (http://amando-abreu.webs.com/)
Doesn't have much content yet, only one robot, a few useful links(Society of robots included), and a fully working forum section, be sure to register, and post.
I intend to post my version of a "start here robot" And depending on how many visitors/members get, make the forum a website of it's own, separated from what you see now, right now it's kind of my blog, but more organised than what blogger allows me.

I appreciate any criticism, things I should improve, and of course, if the site is working properly, because some bits I made myself with html.

regards.

It will be hard to get members considering its a free webs account, people don't think very highly of those.

I would recommend buying a $10 domain name from godaddy and using 000webhost.com for completely free hosting. That is how I do my web sites, and a great cheap way to look like you are serious  :D

Haven't heard of that godaddy, very good prices  :o, i'll see how this one goes first, but those are some very decent prices.

000webhost has got to be the best free host. Though they have a few issues and some downtime, they try hard to fix them ASAP. If you want a reliable site that is always up, I would go to hosting24 or another professional hosting.

I was looking at that go daddy, .info is under one dollar, of course that's just what they say in the front page...
000webhost.com, it says it's free, but to have a "yourname.com" costs 5$ each month, go daddy is only 10 bucks per year.

No, godaddy gives you domain name for ten bucks a year. After that, you need hosting, which 000webhost offers for free.

I host my own domain name at 000webhost it is FREE.

http://www.000webhost.com/order.php (http://www.000webhost.com/order.php)

It doesn't say anything about ordering, maybe you looked at the "Free Domain Name Section"

http://www.000webhost.com/ (http://www.000webhost.com/)

That is only if you pay them and then they "buy" a domain name for you.

Hope that helps...

Oh i see now, i think,
So i make the website at go daddy, and they will host, and register my website for a year, and for 10$?
But if i transfer it to 000webhost, i will still have it .com but free?

You need two things, domain name rights and hosting.

Godaddy offers domain name for $10 a year. You can also buy hosting.

000webhost offers domain name (worse service), but also free hosting.

So combine godaddy $10 domain and 000webhost free hosting.

We have 3 funding sources: we own a paid hosting company and have strong financial grounds. Our free service is also user donation supported. Each day we receive donations from happy users. $10 domain name from godaddy

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Godaddy bad! Godaddy bad!

I started off my domains with Godaddy. before I knew better. $10 a domain, plus they charge $10 for domain privacy, which is against ICANN regulation.

I can go on for a while on all the reasons they are bad, but to save typing I'm going to just cut and paste Slashdot article headlines.

Massive Number of GoDaddy WordPress Blogs Hacked
GoDaddy Wants Your Root Password
GoDaddy VP Caught Bidding Against Customers
GoDaddy Silences RateMyCop.com
ICANN Moves Against GoDaddy Domain Lockdowns

That last one I got caught in. After I found out they were cheating me out of free domain privacy I should be getting, THEY WOULDN'T RELEASE MY DOMAINS!!!!! I had to threaten to sue before they let it go so I could transfer it to 1&1.com

I use 1&1 for hosting and domains now. Just a .com domain is free for one year, then $9 a year with free privacy. Hosting with unlimited bandwidth and a FREE domain is $4 a month. If you google them there are horror stories about trying to cancel 1&1 accounts, but it seems the common thread between them were people who would just stop paying instead of calling and canceling, and 1&1 would chase them down for the money.

BTW, domain privacy is a must if you want to avoid tons of spam and phishing emails.

1&1 it is, but how is a free domain more expensive than the paid one?  :D

Or does that have to do with the bandwidth?

if it' free for a year i'll definitely do it there, don't want to pay if i'll have sh!tt/ service and spam.

When you resister a public domain, your name, email, and street address are all posted in your public Domain records. These records are very easy to index, so must spammers write scripts to index them and pull your information for spam purposes.

However, if you register a private domain, your details are kept off the public records. Instead, your registrar puts their details on the public record, and sorts through any junk sent to them to see if any needs to reach you.

So it makes MUCH MUCH more sense to keep your domain private, which is why ICANN regulation mandates all registrars offer the private option for free, but Godaddy simple ignores this.

So, Razor, all of this is now publicly search-able: ( I assume it's you. Is your name Victor?)

Registrant:
   Victor Youk
   6113 Colchester Road
   Fairfax, Virginia 22030
   United States

   Domain Name: RAZORCONCEPTS.NET
      Created on: 04-Jul-09

   Administrative Contact:
      Youk, Victor
      6113 Colchester Road
      Fairfax, Virginia 22030

      [email protected]

Even your phone number, but I kept that out. Forgive me if feel I violated your privacy by posting this, but it takes anyone 3 seconds to find it for themselves, all they need to know is your website address.

But on my domain:

Registrant Name:Oneandone Private Registration
Registrant Organization:1&1 Internet, Inc. - http://1and1.com/contact (http://1and1.com/contact)
Registrant Street1:701 Lee Road, Suite 300
Registrant Street2:ATTN: billporter.info
Registrant Street3:

Registrant State/Province:PA
Registrant Postal Code:19087
Registrant Country:US
Registrant Phone:+1.8772064254
Registrant Phone Ext.:
Registrant FAX:
Registrant FAX Ext.:
Registrant Email:

No personal details. I'm not trying to single Razor out, but post all this as an example for people just starting out that they should get domain privacy on their domains.

You missed the time intervals. $9 a YEAR for just a Domain, $4 a MONTH for domain plus hosting.

Just a domain is free for the first year, then $9 a YEAR after that,

Yes. It's a little tricky to setup, but it can be done, and I'm sure support from 1&1 could help you do it.

Google returns some stuff on how they use to make you install some software when you signed up.

http://hype-free.blogspot.com/2009/01/000webhostcom-trying-to-install-malware.html (http://hype-free.blogspot.com/2009/01/000webhostcom-trying-to-install-malware.html)

not sure if that's still true.

Razor, you ever make your info private?

It's not critical if you are ok with giving your name, address, phone number and email to the entire world.

Hows Virgina this time of the year? Can I call you sometime?  :P

Hey guys, I was wondering what a cool homepage would be like? preferably technology related  :)

This is what it is now:
http://amando-abreu.webs.com/ (http://amando-abreu.webs.com/)
I really want something cooler, I was thinking a long the lines of an electronic schematic, and each component has a link to a page, projects etc... but I think adafruit has something like this somewhere  :-\

Any cool Ideas? I'll give you credit for it  :)

I have an Idea that I like, I'd like to hear what you have to say about it, I'll draw it on inkscape later and post it.

If you have flash, you could have Rorcle or the AATV run over the words and do a screen wipe.
Maybe have a matrix display a news ticker.
Robots moving in the background maybe?

So, what is the best deal to get a domain name and hosting for a modest online store? I have no experience with running websites and to set up a store (cart, link to Paypal, etc.) so what do you guys suggest? I don't want to pay a lot, but I want it to be easy and safe.

Thanks for your feedback!

P.S. Razor, I like your store, can you tell me how to set up mine?

I Like this quite a lot dude :D I'll see if I can have it done in processing.

I have a new website :) no longer at webs, using 000webhost with a free domain, website here (http://capslock.comyr.com/), not much info yet, wasting lots of time getting it to work on all major browsers, on that note, can you mention what browser you're using and if it's running properly? Chrome users should have no problem, I use chrome and all errors are found and fixed easily.
IE Users might see some glitches, I also have IE and see the problems myself, but they are harder to correct(at least for me), firefox, opera, and others, I have no idea.

Thanks.
