big motor tight budget
« on: June 09, 2007, 10:43:58 PM »
What i need is a motor that has enough power and speed to drive a screw(the kind connected to a boat's engine) that will push a 250 pound boat through the water at at least 5 MPH for under $50. I also need a small screw, say 3" diameter to be driven by the motor for under $30.
many thanks to anyone that can find a motor that fits these needs.

my sugestion is the blower motor from a car's heating and cooling system.
also see if you can find the screw to a boat there

that might just work but my only problem is finding the motor in the car(how would i take it out of the car, where is it. i know it varies by make and model but a basic rundown would be helpful)

they use it for bikes, why not boats?

I am going to look into both ideas, but i'm leaning towards the weed wacker engine because it already has most of what i need(like a long output shaft to stick in the water). but then again a blower motor from a junkyard is very cheap so i might use both, one way or another

you could make a mini longtail boat with the weed wacker with very little modification.

I think I should have a blower motor left over from when i was trying to put one on a scooter. so if you want it, you can have it, if I find it.
