online hardware store for pre-cut plexi / acrylic glass
« on: July 02, 2010, 11:36:12 AM »
HI !

I'm staring a new robotics project and for my robots chassis i would like use plexi/acrylic glass
I used it for my previous robot and it worked out great.
But i had someone else to cut it for me.(and he had a sorts of machines to cut it precisely)
This time he can't cut it for me, and i hear it is quite hard to cut it your self with out machines to help you , as i need the plexi/acrylic glass the but cut very precisely.
My question is: does anyone know of an online hardware store that sells plexi/acrylic glass
and they would cut it to my desire?

Thanks
regards

bigbluesaw.com comes to mind

But, any kind of cutting service like that will cost you a lot (its all controlled by hand, no automation to it). I would recommend using materials you could work with at home.

Acrylic is actually quite easy to use, grab a jigsaw and a proper jigsaw blade for acrylic, it cuts it like butter, file the edges if you want for a neater look, the first ever time I did it, I got very good results, try it, not hard at all.

www.ponoko.com

If its just cuts and its acrylic no etching then they are rather cheap. Shipping is the biggest problem but I commonly try to get BIG orders $300 and above then buy into their monthly plan getting free shipping and $1.35 a min laser time vs $2 standard. Shipping for me is around 11.99 and for most small stuff thats more then what I spent on the item.
