Finally finished soldering everything and am doing the final testing before installing the microcontroller. I don't have access to a adjustable power supply so all I have to go by is a multimeter.
I've done a connectivity test and everything there seems to be ok but I'm somewhat confused by this line in the instructions - "If you put the multi-meter on the resistance setting, make sure all non-connected pins have at least 5 kohm resistance or you may have power issues." What exactly is meant by "non-connected pins"? Can someone give me an example of what pins I'm supposed to be checking this way?
Sorry for my ignorance, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

by non-connected pins admin meant all the pins like your i/o ports. as in they arent supposed to be joined and if they have a resistance of less than 5K there may be a short.

Ok, my meter doesn't show anything when I check non-connected pins using the resistance setting. How could it since they're not connected to each other? ???
Anyway, I assume that it should be alright then since it passed continuity tests. Next up, plug in the battery pack and look for smoke. :)

They might be connected within the ic but with a very high resistance like 5kohm between them.

wait did you check the resistance with the chip in the socket?
-
No, I haven't installed the chip in the socket yet.
-
I wouldn't worry, as long as the continuity check is okay then you should be fine.
-
yup as long as none of the pins on the board are touching (except the power bus) you should be fine and when admin said 5k he meant with the chip inserted didn't he? otherwise there is no resistance as you noted ;)

Sounds good. This project has been a good challenge for my old eyes and not so steady hands. I'll try to post pictures of it if all goes as planned. Thanks!

how old are you exactly?
