Using Solarbotics GM8 with Atmega8?

Hello, I am quite advanced programmer but I am beginner at robotics and
I have problems with hardware. I have got Geared Motor 8 from Solarbotics
(http://www.solarbotics.com/products/gm8/) and I found out how to
program Atmega8 chip. Now I need some controlling device to put between
those two - I think it should be H-bridge (or dual H-bridge, because I have
two motors), but I am not able to tell which should I select. Can someone
please help me? I just need to be sure that it will be compatible and I would
appreciate if it isn't too expensive.

A SN754410 quad half h-bridge would work great here(same pinout as L293d at solarbotics), you can even use two if you like for future use in robots that demand more motor power. so pretty much tie in out a and b, same with c and d, same for the inputs. I'd personally choose this method for designs sake, but you can use one for that type of motor.

Thank you very much, this lloks fine. I suppose that it is cheaper than its solarbotics equivalent because it supports only smaller voltage and currents, but large enough for my motors.

I really appreciate your help, because this looks like what I was looking for - it is cheap, it is easy to use (at least I hope) and I can get it even here in Czech republic.

cool, glad to help you out  , I personally used one SN754410 myself with two GM8 motors from Solarbotics and I've reported no issues.
