Title: Help needed to decide whats the best choice!
Post by: sotu on April 03, 2007, 06:51:28 AM
I have built a remote controlled car (Not wireless tho, working on that) and i have:
- 2 front wheels for a swing mechanism
- 2 wheels (A little further back then the front wheels) for driving
- 1 Wheel driven by 1 9V EL motor
- And in the back, 2 wheels for support.

NOW! what i need help to decide is, would u have removed the 1 wheel driven by a 9V EL motor and used the motor to drive a wepon, like..a saw or something or keep it for ekstra spees boost?

Please give me Feedback, i really need it to decide..! :-\

Like, I used to have a lot of similar toughts about weapons and stuff......hacking things to pieces and the like......

if you have a weapon, this could be quite heavy, and, with a motor with a 9v battery attached, will it be a weapon?

if you try and speed something up with a motor connected to a 9v battery, then this could either be pointless, or i'm sure if the motor cannot keep up, then this could produce it's own flaws. Generative effects?

If it was me, I would remove the motor and put some sort of extra circuit in, like a lazer pointer........something like that.

Build an electrokinetic gun!!!  Those things are fun!  You can shoot BB's or shiny aluminum rings at people, and that can be controlled with simple power from a battery.  And they shoot them at incredible velocities that it becomes extremely hazardous.  Range is always an advantage  :D

Yeah..Gun is maybe a good idea.. :-\
I was thinking a little about a round blade powered by a thick rubber band attached to the rotating pin at the EL motor.

I have made a sketch of the robot and how it looks like now in a 3D program.
Would u like me to put it on the forum, Or give u a link to my homepage with the photos on? ???

I believe it is based on the amount of posts you submit and possibly a choice of the admin.  I do believe you mean the title below my Account Name.  For Example:  I am a Jr. Member.

I hope this answers your question

I think Admin bestows the title of Robot Expert on a select few.  Otherwise, the other poster is correct about number of posts equaling post title.

Ok thanks, but can u also answar my first question, please?
I bought 2 rubber wheels bought in a model shop used for model airplanes. First i glued 1 of the wheels to the rotating stick on the EL motor. But it wasen't straight so i had to rip it off and glue the other one on. So if u guys want me to use the EL motor for a wepon i will have to rip the other wheel off and that will mean 10$ waste. :-[

or take the wheel off and keep it for another robot
or just buy another motor.

The problem with removing the wheel is, i've glued it so hard on i cant get it off without ruening the wheel. I could buy a new motor but another 9V motor + wepons attached to it will make it much heavyer and slowen the speed for the driving wheels..!
But seems like thats the only choice (Buying another motor) And the ekstra speed boost i get from the motor with the wheel will catch up for the ekstra weight! ;)

Oh man, lol, my advice is to not go destroying anything.

Make this robot, but learn for the next one :)

As was said, you could keep it on, but then remove the leads and then find something from around your house to replace it..............like a portable fan..............or something.

I have a wired remote like i have said before in my posts but the problem is that i only have 2 push/pull buttons. 1 for driving forth and back and 1 for driving left and right. Any ideas i can use so i can place more motors on and still use the buttons on the control or do i have to buy a new remote and a reciever!?

I found a way, i made a new control placed inside the other with holes so 2 buttons is sticking out. The problem is the buttons are so small they won't stick out but i solwed that with screwing 2 screws on the buttons so now they're easy to press but it doesn't look to fancy tho..!:P

U think its a smart idea making nails in front of my battlebot? so if i give the motors ultimate power it will drive fast, really fast if i use the extra spees motor the nails will do plenty dammage then right?

Hmm so I'm not very familiar with battlebots, but it seems to me that nails going really quickly will do some damage, but it's mostly just piercing damage. You might be able to go through parts of the other robot (although if it uses a metal body I'm not sure) but the nails would basically go into the robot and get stuck. Then the two robots will get stuck together and there's not a lot of long-lasting damage.

Furthermore, if you have high speed in order to pierce the nails through, the torque on your robot would probly be lower, and the opponent's robot might be able to just drive around with you stuck on its side :P

Yeah that's a problem, i have so many wheels its hard to turn quickly and suddenly..!
