Which Microcontroller?

I am creating an Intelligent mobile robot for my thesis. my scope is to create a robot mapping wherein the robot will remember maps. what microcontroller is best for this project? I would also like to create a development board for the microcontroller to burn my codes. thanks in advance!!!

Well, what do you need the robot to control, how many sensors? How many actuators? How many other things?
Take a look at some of the tutorials on the main site, i believe there are a few about mapping.
