Title: battery and charger connection purchasing help.
Post by: LIONS*LEADER on December 02, 2008, 06:18:19 AM
heya guys, so i i am a complete newbie to all of this. so i have lots of questions, but dont let that fool you, ive been looking through the forums for more than a month now. bought the axon MCU and the parts for the 50$ robot minus the breadboards batteries and chargers and solder and the photoresistors which are out of stock.

i was looking at these three batteries as they seemed to be the best deals and plan to get two of the 2300MaH ones first but wanted to get your input on the other two.

and then i was thinking of getting this charger

i think its the one admin was talking about in a forum post here
http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=3104.0

since the battires i am getting have hitec connectors on them i was curious what adapters / mods i would need to do to have them charged with this charger?
...i saw this on the charger selection page...
ALL CHARGERS COME STANDARD WITH A KYOSHO MALE CONNECTOR(S)- THESE MATE WITH TAMIYA FEMALE CONNECTORS
this looks like it should work

i was also looking at charging in parallel.
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/showitem.asp?ItemID=10233.44
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/showitem.asp?ItemID=10234.44

i think the first one is the right one.

does all this sound right?

im confused because of the dual round openings and the dual square openings and then the third config being the shaped openings so it only fits one way, while all being female Tamiya's.  ill be calling them today and asking them myself.

edit: so i called them and they said id need to get either a charger that charges two at once
that costs three times as much
http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/showitem.asp?ItemID=11273.12

or get a battery discharger there at the site so i can discharge both before using the paralell charger.

by the way the shipping is like 9$ on like 35$ worth of stuff, its due to it being international, is there anyplace else i can order these things from that isnt going to charge me 9$ an order?

should i just be making my own connectors?

what kind of connection/adapter will i need to power the axon?

i bought two of everything for the 50$ robot save the programmer so that i could both use a breadboard and a board i needed to solder with.

the following part numbers are for radioshack.
http://www.radioshack.com/

should I also get this
solderless jumper wire kit?
276-173

and the photoresistors
276-1657
are out of stock. does anyone have any idea where to get comparable ones?

what kinds of wire will i need for both projects?

and anyone have any reccomendations for safety goggles of thier choice? due to your comfort and thier reliability?

tried not to ask any questions that i should just research alone.

thanks for the help everyone! and thanks for making the forums!

You basically need to buy/make your own adapter, one side having the hitec connection and the other side with the kyosho or whatever. I had to do this for my ERP with the Axon.

22 or 24 gauge stranded wire

only if you plan to use a breadboard (very useful to get one!)

I got my photoresistors from "the source". They were the exact same product which radioshack sells but sold for a couple extra bucks (CAD funds though). i also, when i first was going to buy the photo resistors, i looked on radio shack and they were sold out..so i signed up for some thing where they would e-mail me when the product was in stock.  unfortunately when the photoresistors where instock and i tried to checkout...i discovered they don't ship outside the US. --_--
