iSobot on sale at $99.95
« on: December 08, 2008, 10:18:25 PM »
If you want a cheap biped, this is the cheapest you'll ever get. I'm just waiting for one of you to hack the biped and attach an Axon to it or something ;D

The 6.5 inch tall robot has 17 servos and a gyroscope. It responds to 10 voice commands and comes with over 200 pre-programmed actions such as push ups and somersaults.

When iSobot came out in the US last year it had a price tag of about $300

iSobot at Amazon.com for $99.95

I'm debating why it's on sale . . . either its not selling at all so they are trying to get rid of it, or its selling like crazy so they are enjoying cost reductions from mass manufacturing . . .

Awesome! I might have to wait till christmas when the live cashback gets up to 30% to get one. A robot like this for $70 would be killer  ;D

EDIT: Or not. You can't program it on the computer...

Thats why you hack it! Think: 17 servos for $100, with a biped chassis, sound module, and gyro for free ;D

I only recently became interested in robotics.  I just built the 50 dollar robot and I've done alot of reading and I'm pretty much hooked, thinking of switching my university major from math to computer or electrical engineering.  I've seen these iSobots on sale now for 60 and 70 dollars.  Seems like a great deal, all kinds of hardware and a good well thought out chassis.  Would it be a bad idea for a newb like myself to purchase one of these and try to proceed continue learning about robots through modding the thing?  I'm taking classes in c programming and fortran right now and I'm pretty handy overall, if I do lots of reading/research is this a viable project for me to buy, and start modding in a relatively short timeframe?

I dont think an Axon would fit in there. Youd have to strap it onto the bots back
