Title: $50 robot cable

looks like it will work. kinda hard to tell from the picture, do you know what the end that plugs into the robot looks like? if that end looks like the one used in the $50 robot tutoirial you should be alright.

to add to what trumpkin said. even if it doesnt match you can get a datasheet on it and resolder the $50 robot connectors

This does look kind of old but doesn't mean it wont work. Look like this uses a serial port (on left side of image) rather than a USB port so make sure that your PC/laptop actually has a serial port. The right side of the image looks as though its a 10 pin cable to connect to your board. This is ok and should just mean (sorry but this is stolen from the AVRFREAKS site).
The 6 pin to 10 pin conversion is as follows
6 pin header------10 pin header
