Title: 5 DOF CNC makes helmet
Post by: Admin on April 09, 2010, 11:35:40 PM
My bet is it costs $300k for the CNC, another $40k for the software, and another $5k for the block of aluminum . . .

Not sure how long it took, or why no cutting fluid was used . . .

I watched this yesterday and was amazed at the final detail. I also wondered about the lack of cutting fluid. My theory is that they're using high speed bits with lots of cutting edges at a low cut rate. It also helps the viewer see what's going on better. Love it!!

Wow the detail on those grids on the back where crazy. I don't know who paid for that to be made but wow that must have cost some pennies.
