Title: How many Volt is needed?
Post by: sotu on April 07, 2007, 09:01:57 AM
Im making a 2 wheeled robot. I haven't started yet but im thinking of a small 2 wheeled robot, not heavy at all. Im just wondering: Should i buy two 6 V motors or two of this options: 1,5 V, 3 V, 4,5 V or as said 6 V??

I think 3v is what a lot of people use for smaller robots.

Thing is, since most other circuitry uses 5v, then this makes sense to use a 3v motor because you are stressing it a bit, yeah, but it's light.

Normally you would want to be getting one of these with a gearbox on, because they spin quite fast usually

Yeah but on those u need 4 wires connected to them!:(

I prefer 2 for turning and 2 for drifting

Normally each motor needs two connections.

I know but a servo needs 3

The reason a servo has three is because it has a small circuit board in there, and needs the third wire to know how far to turn

Im thinking of ordering one of those..:D

Yeah, if you follow the $50 robot tutorial, that should be easier.

I got no eletric circuit knowlodge what's so ever. All i want is either a kit with a manuel on how to put ure own circuit card together or to learn where to wire the wires on a finish made circuit card so i know how to do it and can then buy a finish circuit card and use the knowledge i learned in the kit. Im googleing and googleing but i cant find anything :'( I dont care if i can learn how to put the wires on a circuit card stashed with all the pieces needed or to buy a empty circuit card and put on all the things needed for a cicruit card...PLEASE i need links..! If u dont understand what im saying then say what u dont understand. I'll be happy to explain u!

Well, if you're not understanding the robot builder's bonanza, i can't really think of much you could really buy.

Like, what's the point of puttint together a robot if you don't know how it works? My dad got me one ages ago...........I put it together. Great. I was as bored as a doorknob.

Sotu, you are at the most interesting stage of robot bulding

I would be suprised if robots like this http://www.pololu.com/products/robots.html (http://www.pololu.com/products/robots.html) aren't exactly what you are looking for. But, as I say again, what's the point?

I have been visiting the link u gave me before u posted it. And have decided to buy one of those kits. But what u dont learn is how to put the car together. But i will learn how to wire up the wires and where to wire them so i will be able to make a much better robot after this!

Yeah, they will have instructions. Good luck.

Don't cut and paste your questions to all threads, like this.
see it's anoying.
use google.

try searching for 'microcontroller' both in this forum and on google.
tons can be found here, too:

ive never heard of 'circuit card' . . .

as for choosing a motor, dont choose on voltage unless you have battery limitations. instead, choose a motor based on torque and rpm.

Ok im just used to call it circuit card because its directly transmitted from norwegian!
