Title: SoR - 5 years ago
Post by: Razor Concepts on March 01, 2009, 10:55:40 PM
What did Society of Robots look like 3 years ago?

Apparently it looks pretty much the same  :D

You can look up what other web sites looked like years back at
web.archive.org

Interesting to see what some big sites looked like when they came out (google, microsoft, etc)

Hmmmm something is wrong here . . . I started SoR in June 2005 . . . but according to archive.org it was started years before that!

It's also missing the grey curvy line between the menu and main page . . .

i was wondering about that too, and the furthest the forums go back is 2005ish. maybe is you search too far back it will only show the earliest version?

The first time I saw SoR's page was probably around July / August 2005. At that time I thought that this is just going to be another website on robots, just like the rest of it. I said to myself, this site will just be like the others, it won't survive for long.

And then somehow I found a link to the site again after a few months (probably), and it seemed to have grown much better than I've expected! I was really amazed. And a few years on, its still going strong.

So congratulations to everyone, espacially our beloved admin!

lol to be honest, I felt exactly the same way. I've made a half dozen websites before SoR and they all pretty much died. I figured after a month or two I'd just get bored and move on. But the traffic just kept going up :D

That's the date of the link.... and it's
March 02 2009
I can say there is a big difference!!!

Although.... unless you haven't noticed.... The active members, unfortunately, are very little.......
And that's bad......
There are many members that just appear, ask somethings, and then...... bb

I feel like SoR is becoming one of the big sites in robotics.... But I really don't know any other forums.....
Except from a Greek one which is the only one....
And a German one, that I gotta admit it's hell bigger than SoR... but as my German are very poor.....
I had little luck with babel fish understanding and replying....

I have searched the web for over a year for a good robot site...
This is the only site I found where "inexpensive homemade robot" really means that!
