Standoffs
« on: October 10, 2009, 08:14:54 PM »
I searched the forums for information on standoffs but wasn't able to find anything that I could use. There was one post that listed metal standoffs at Sparkfun but I'm not sure if I want to go with metal standoffs or not. Does anyone know of a place that sells standoffs made out of anything other material than metal or is there a tutorial anywhere that tells how to make them?

Check McMaster-Carr. They carry nylon stands-offs and spacers in many sizes.

A craft store that carries beads might have a type that is a plastic cylinder. These beads come in bunches of colors, usually a sample bag that will cost you $5 for a lifetime supply. They are about 1/4 inch long and work with #4-40 screws. Perhaps with #6-32.

home depot has some and lowes probably has them too. The beads above can be melted with a clothes iron which will somewhat melt them together.

#4-40 only, not #6-32. The height of these is 5mm. Stacking them lets you space your boards every half centimeter.
