Title: Programmer head of sparkfun programmer
Post by: dellagd on March 03, 2009, 07:31:40 AM
I am a robotics/computer programming kid and I wanted to do the $50 robot(I had searched the web for a inexpensive to build robot and this one looked good) so I ordered the parts. But when I got the programmer from SparkFun.com, the programmer head was different from what was on the circuit board. Long story short, I went to the READ THIS POST on the tutorial and saw that neither of the programmer heads there looked the same as mine.
(1x6 row of pins instead of 2x3 or 2x5)
Now, I REALLY don't want to mess thing up, so I was wondering if you could tell me which pin goes to which pin on the microcontroller.
I hope you can help me, and I hope that the answer wasn't right in front of me the whole time.

All of the things on this page http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/categories.php?c=7 (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/categories.php?c=7) have a 2x3, an 2x5 or both an 2x3 and an 2x5 connector. What exactly did you get? Post a link!

should be really easy to fix. all you'll need to do if rearrange the programmer headers a bit.

Smash said they only sell 2x3 and 2x5, but I got 1x6!
I am really confused. It seems the one I purchased is different from the one I got!

no pics come up? and that one says its a 2x5 header. you could do two options here:
1. make an adaptor for it
2. change the pin config on the $50 board.
me personally would take the adaptor as it could come in handy later 8)
if your thinking about modding the pin config this may help http://www.olimex.com/dev/images/avr-icsp-10.gif (http://www.olimex.com/dev/images/avr-icsp-10.gif) and maybe this http://www.olimex.com/dev/pdf/avr-pg1b.pdf (http://www.olimex.com/dev/pdf/avr-pg1b.pdf) . thanks for posting this, i was thinking i would have to get an AVR MKII for like $60-70. i may just make one of these!

so mine is the same as the 2x3, just oriented differently?(mine is 1x6)
I heard that it came with different headers (I think) and mine didn't (if it does at all)

Send Sparkfun a note... they might hook you up with the right programmer since you received something that wasn't like the photos.

dellagd, the programmer you linked to has an 2x5 connector in the picture and in the documentation.

On the other hand your connector looks way to close to this connector: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8108 (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8108)
Click on the extra pictures where it shows the 1x6 connector, even the wire colors are the same! They probably sent you an PIC programmer, not an AVR programmer.

But yeah, I'm gonna send sparkfun a letter
