selling robot stuff, Cerebellum, CMUcam, etc.
« on: June 08, 2008, 07:03:21 PM »
I have three CMUcam's (the first version) for sale. The lens cap, cables, and extras are *not* included. Its a $100 + shipping value.
But I'm offering them at $70/each, including shipping.

I have four Cerebellums for sale. These are early versions, not the updated one documented on the website. They are 16F877 with power bus and motor driver etc., but used some old bootloader version that I no longer have/remember. Its rs232 so you can still access it. I bought these particular versions for $100 each back in the day. I'm selling them as-is, including shipping, for $15/each.

I have four used 7.2V 1700mAh NiCad battery packs that I'll sell for $12/each, including shipping.

$5 off for each additional item you buy from me . . . just post here if you want more info . . .

I might get a Cerebellum, but have a few questions.  :P First of all, do they still work? Could I just buy a USB to Serial Adapter to make up for my computer lacking a serial port? Finally, does the bootloader come with the program still or do I have to buy the programming/compiler seperate? Thanks!

Everything worked the last time I used it. I think one of the CMUcam's came with a small lens misalignment (factory error), but otherwise it still works. If someone is seriously interested in buying a CMUcam from me, I can test it out to verify it works for you.

yes

I no longer remember what the bootloader was, but if you email the botrics people they can help you get it working again. I'm sure they still have documentation on it somewhere . . . You will need to get a compiler that can compile for PICs, some are free, but the good ones are expensive.

Could I just download a different programmer for free or do I have to install it to my bootloader, too?

I went to their site, and I found out a little bit about programming. Could I just download Teacher for programming? http://botrics.com/support/cereb/manual/chapter1/1-2-teacher.html

Teacher is the new bootloader they use. The old Cerebellums used a different bootloader. ;)

You will need to email them for more details, its not on their website. They will be able to give you the bootloader software for free, along with all source code that worked on it. I'm assuming they still have it . . .

OK, thanks! Is it manditory for me to upload the program to the bootloader or can I just keep it on the computer?

EDIT: Ignore that last sentence. I'll ask my dad if I can buy the Cerebellum when he comes home. $15 is a steal!

Hey, Admin, ignore that message I sent you. I found a free C compiler (hopefully). Would this compiler work with the Cerebellum you are selling? http://microchip.htsoft.com/products/compilers/PICClite.php

For the battery packs, could you name a good charger?

Does the Cerebellum come with the RS232 Serial Cable or do I have to buy it seperately?

If I do have to buy it seperately, could I use this cable?
http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9#

Or would I use this cable for the Cerebellum?

You have two ways to program it:
- bootloader by serial
- take the PIC out of the socket, and use a hardware programmer ($30+)

Would this compiler work with the Cerebellum you are selling?
If it says '16F877' as one of the chips it can compile for, yeap.

Depends on your budget, but this is what I use these days:

that'll work . . . those cables are dirt cheap these days . . .

you'd have to take the chip out and on a special circuit board for this to work . . . i wouldn't recommend it . . .

Dood, just email the Botrics people for bootloader help! It'll save you tons of thinking! :P

Paypal charges much higher fees than Google Checkout for the seller. And Google is probably more trustworthy . . .

Combined with previous bad experience, and the bad reviews other sellers have told me about, I have no plans to ever use Paypal. :-\

I actually had 6 Cerebellums (yea, I'm shocked myself!) . . . I sold 2 of them right before I made this thread (I offered them for sale in an older thread).

Nothing in this thread has been sold yet.

Its a really old version, and 'teacher' will not work with it.

On the back, it says 'AC-O20203'.

I can include a pic of the board if you/they need one . . .
