Motor Driver?
« on: July 24, 2009, 09:23:11 AM »
Is there a specific motor driver that I should use for these: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1123 motors , I'm going to use two with the LM393 dual comparator chip for a line follower. Im going to use two CDS photoresistors for the sensors. Would This: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/24http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/24 work for that? and should i put this in a socket?

yes that will work fine. you can put it in a socket if you think something may go wrong in your circuit or you don't trust your soldering.

yeah i dont really trust my soldering, im using a comparator chip so should i put the motor driver or comparator chip first?

it depends where they're going. if you think you may burn them out rather use a socket.

where they're going, can you clarify, do you mean what other components are hooked up to them?

it sounds like you're trying to build a "herbie", which is a microcontroller less robot that compares signals to go left or right

a basic "herbie" circuit is something like this: http://downloads.solarbotics.net/misc/herbie1.gif

i'd consider looking into it, google "beam herbie" if you want more information.

if you want information about how motor drivers work, look at the SoR H-Bridge tutorial, found here:
http://www.societyofrobots.com/schematics_h-bridgedes.shtml

motor drivers are basically H-bridges, read through that tutorial, it will give you a greater idea of what you need to do
use the google.  it's your friend.
