Title: Exo-skeletons...
Post by: sparta98 on February 20, 2011, 04:32:19 PM
I'm mostly looking for the general opinion on robotic exo-skeletons, because I'm seriously considering a robot suit as my first project.

Now, I have no delusions about this. I know it will be difficult, expensive, and probably very impractical, but it sounds like a helluva lotta fun to me.

I'm wondering, how would you (a robotic community) define an exosuit?

Finally, I'm curious as to whether or not anybody has videos of these devices in operation (not counting the Hybrid Assistive Limb or the Sarcos designs. I'm looking for homegrown ones)

Have a look at Robotic leg exoskeleton question (http://www.societyofrobots.com/robotforum/index.php?topic=13246.msg98379#msg98379) thread :) just reacently answered similar question to another guy  ;)

Take care  :)

I did look through that, but that guy/girl has something very different in mind.

Mine's not going to be particulary practical or advanced. I was honestly planning on supporting the battery weight myself (I've got a very strong back. Blame school).

I'm still thinking on my control system, though. My main problem there was deciding where to mount the controls on the inside of my wrists.

Here's the blog of a guy who did a soft exoskeleton using air muscles.
He has some videos as well as an air muscle tutorial.

Looks like fun =) I haven't got the experience with that sort of thing, though.

I've started very basic drawings thanks to some of the video here.

By the way, if any footage of the Hardiman exists, that'd be stellar.
