Venus GPS with PIC microcontroller

Hi,

I need some help regarding Venus GPS.

I'm doing a project about this. I'm connecting it to a pic microcontroller and display it to a serial LCD. I'm wondering the receiver will output these NMEA message as long as you supply power of 3.3v to it? then we just get the pic to interpret these messages (writing c program and using mplab to compile) and display coordinates on LCD...Thanks.

First, the Sparkfun Venus is garbage - don't get it! And don't trust the schematic, it didn't match the actual device I bought. Declared specs of the Venus on the Sparkfun website are wrong, too.

That said, I *believe* you have to request the information. Its I2C, so wouldn't make sense that it would transmit non-stop. I'm sure the manual will explain, or someone else can chime in.
